See What You Can Do With 3D Printing
I’ve been hearing a lot about 3D printing lately. It’s not been wholly clear to me, though, exactly what it is (especially after I read the Wikipedia entry). From a layman’s perspective, you tend to think about ink, paper and a printer and how on earth do you get three dimensions on that outside of augmented reality.
Then I saw 3D printing demonstrated in a video and in a way that instantly gave me the clear understanding of what it is and how it works.
(If you don’t see the video embedded above, watch it on YouTube.)
It’s a very good demonstration and presenter Joe Titlow of Z Corporation, manufacturer of the 3D printing equipment, knows his stuff and is able to explain it well in simple terms.
Look out for the “Holy cow!” moment by David Kaplan, the man who’s looking to have his wrench (that’s a spanner to us Brits) “printed.” He’s a theoretical particle physicist and if he’s impressed by this technology, it must be something to pay attention to.

The Dell Streak: A Smartphone Or Something More?
“Is it a phone? Is it a tablet? An iPad killer? Or what?” These are the questions that stood out to me in much of the online commentary about the Dell Streak, the new mobile device launched by Dell a few months ago. And many people answer such questions by describing it as a smartphone.
Thanks to my friends at Dell, I have a Dell Streak which I’ve been discovering a little this weekend.

Uploading Audio From Anywhere In The World
If you want to record audio and post your recording to the web, all without anything other than your iPhone or a web browser, it’s never been easier to do that than now.
You’re spoiled for choice with a growing number of web services and iPhone apps, all (currently) free.

The iPhone Is All About Functionality
I said that a few weeks ago: iPhone is all about the apps and I’m more convinced of that than ever.
As I was scanning the Wall Street Journal on my iPhone, I got to thinking about some of the other apps I have installed on this mobile device.

Learning the Ins and Outs of Apple’s iPhone 3G
Over the past few years, I’ve had great enjoyment from a wide range of devices – ones I’ve either purchased myself or which have been given or loaned to me by companies via their PR agencies – which I’ve written posts or produced video reviews about, recently over on Next, my tech blog.
The latest device I have for such a purpose is an iPhone 3G which arrived by courier late on Friday evening, thus giving me much of the weekend to get to know it a bit.

Animoto An Amazing Web-based Video Creator
One of the communication technologies I like experimenting with is video.
That’s why I play with new tools like Qik (live video streaming from a Nokia mobile phone) and seesmic (video conversations via your webcam).
I discovered another one today that I find so compelling that I’m just amazed the whole internet isn’t a-buzz about it (although there is indeed plenty of buzz).
This is Animoto, a web-based service that automatically creates a video from images and music.
That rather dry description does this service little justice. You have to see what it can do to fully appreciate its potential.
Take a look at this: Read more
