Earlier this week, yet another high-tech smartphone debuted, but unlike many of the devices that have come before it, the BlackBerry Torch doesn’t look like it’ll be old news before the month is out.  Many onlookers have admitted to being quite impressed by the specs sheet.

The biggest news is perhaps that the Torch sports both a touchscreen interface and a QWERTY keyboard.  This should satisfy all sorts of people without making the phone too bulky (its height/width/depth measurements are 4.37 x 2.44 x 0.57 inches).

As for some other neat details, the display measures 3.2″, the camera is of the 5 MP variety, and a 4 GB microSD card complements 4 GB of internal storage.  Plus, the price is a not-too-terrible $199.

Then one more key point is that the Torch will be the first phone to use the BlackBerry 6 operating system.  This should give users improved music and media options, along with better Web browsing and lots of other goodies.

In a less restricted sense, the new OS could help make the Torch much more competitive with Android devices, too, since fresh versions of that operating system always seem to be coming out.

Anyway, we’ll see what happens.  BlackBerry only pulled the figurative sheet off the Torch on Tuesday, so it’ll be a little while before reviewers get their hands on it.
