Booyah is a group of former Blizzard game developers who’ve gotten together to create a game — or some kind of game-like software — for the iPhone. They’re at least partially funded by the iFund, and are being advised by Blizzard’s Rob Pardo, so they must have something going on. It’s just hard to tell what it is, exactly.
According to Kotaku, Booyah is working on “life companion” and “social experiment,” and they are planning on tying it into charities or social causes. Still, the development team so far has been keeping quiet about what exactly they’re working on. Besides a web site update, a press release, and a couple of oblique interviews, it’s difficult to determine what exactly is up. We do know that they pitched the idea to Blizzard, but the game giant wouldn’t go for it.
The prospect of a social networking game tie-in — with casual or pet-like mechanics — could be a major hit on the platform. Thanks to the iPhone’s always-on Internet connection and wide userbase, Booyah could have a major hit on its hands. If only we knew what exactly they’re planning. Booyah says that they’ll reveal what they’re working on “this spring,” so we’ll at least find out sometime in June at the latest. At least we know that, thanks to the presence of a few ex-Diablo III devs, there might be some rainbows and unicorns involved.
